PLATE HEAT
EXCHANGERS

Plate heat exchangers use corrugated plates stacked between a fixed and movable pressure plate. As virtually all of the material is used for heat transfer, plate heat exchangers can have large amounts of effective heat transfer surface in a small footprint. It is not uncommon that a plate heat exchanger will have the same thermal capacity as a shell and tube five times larger. Our plate heat exchangers incorporate superior design features to ensure long-term performance and customer satisfaction.

  • The unique corrugation pattern pressed into each plate produces the highest overall heat transfer rate by assuring turbulent flow and excellent fluid distribution across the entire surface.
  • A true counter-current flow principle and a high heat transfer rate allow our plate heat exchangers to economically handle extreme temperature requirements.
  • High-quality, custom-fit gaskets ensure a secure seal and simple maintenance. The non-adhesive clip-on gasket system is robust and ensures proper fit of the gaskets when closing the heat exchanger.
  • The double seal between the process fluids prevents the possibility of the products mixing if a seal fails. This also allows any leakage to be detected through its escape into the atmosphere.
  • The plate flow gaps have low fill volumes to ensure a faster response to heating and cooling requirements while reducing the costs for more expensive process fluids.
  • The design principle allows for easy expansion or adaptation of the plate pack to new process parameters.
  • A variety of plate sizes and types are available for applications in industry, HVAC, and the energy and food sectors.

Other types of gasketed plate heat exchangers

The SIGMAFIT series features retention time behavior that has been optimized using computer simulation. This allows the series to be used without hesitation in applications that require a homogeneous retention time profile.

  • This design series is used, for example, for all liquids – even those with small solid particles – in the areas of industrial and food technology.
  • Flow rates of up to 4,500 m³/h
  • Hard and soft embossed structures in a herringbone pattern.
  • Plate gap heights of between 2.5 and 4 mm
  • The plates can be equipped with non-adhesive SIGMAFIX gaskets or with bonded high-performance seals.
  • A wide selection of plate and gasket materials is available.
  • Operating pressures of up to 25 bar
  • Also available with SIGMACOAT PTFE coated elastomer gaskets

The advantages of the X series come into play especially where there are very small differences in temperature between cold and warm media. The thinner plate thicknesses of the X series plates also reduce thermal resistance and increase efficiency.

  • Can be used with pure, homogeneous, solid- and sediment-free liquids in all industries.
  • Flow rates of up to 750 m³/h
  • Thin-film plate with highest heat transfer coefficients.
  • Hard and soft embossed structures in a herringbone pattern, partially patented.
  • Plate gap heights < 2.5 mm.
  • The plates can be equipped with non-adhesive SIGMAFIX gaskets or with bonded high-performance seals.
  • Wide selection of materials for plates and gaskets.

The large gap heights of the T series allow solid particles to flow through the flow gaps. But these plate variants can also be used in applications that only allow relatively small drops in pressure.

  • Can be used for all liquids, even those with coarse solid particles, as well as for the condensation of vapors or for the cooling/heating of gases in all areas of industry.
  • Thick-film boards with hard and soft embossed structures in a herringbone pattern.
  • Plate gap heights of between 4 and 6 mm.
  • Large selection of plate and gasket materials.
  • Flow rates of up to 750 m³/h
